Who we are & what we do

Little Paxton Parish Council has a membership of 15 Councillors. The Council employs a Clerk and a Groundsman. Elected and co-opted Councillors do not receive any financial remuneration.

2018 is an election year for the Parish Council and 13 Councillors have been elected. There are two casual vacancies. The next election year is 2022.

Formed in 1894, Little Paxton Parish Council is the first tier of Local Government.

Full Council Meetings take place on the 1st & 3rd Thursday of each month (except August when there is only one meeting) and are normally held in the meeting room of the Village Hall at 7.30pm. Most meetings are approx 1-1.5 hours duration.

There are occasions when Special meetings are held to transact urgent Council business.

Notification of meetings, plus the agenda, can always be found on the Parish notice boards, at least three business days prior to a meeting and on this web site. The meeting dates are also published in the quarterly magazinee Village Views and the monthly edition of PE19 magazine.

Members of the public are welcome to attend Full Council meetings . Each meeting Agenda has a 15 minute Public Forum for members of the public to raise issues with the Council relating to items of Council business which are for debate on the Agenda.

Before the start of the meeting, there will be an opportunity for members of the public to raise issues with the Clerk as items for future meeting agendas.

Contacting the Council

The Clerk's contactable hours for members of the public is only between: Mon- Fri 9am- 2.30pm.

The correspondence address for the Parish Council is not a public office and all meetings with the Clerk are to be arranged by appointment.

All telephone calls to the Parish Clerk are recorded for training & monitoring purposes. Calls are retained in the call log for three months and are deleted on a rolling basis.

What we do in Little Paxton

The Parish Council is responsible for many of the amenities of the village including the QEII Playing field, Cricket wicket, 28 items of outdoor gym equipment, petanque pitch, children's play park, over 100 allotments, Little Paxton Lawn Cemetery, 8 notice boards, 5 dog bins, bus shelters and 46 street lights.

The Council also organises the annual village fete' Paxfest & Fun Dog Show' which takes place on the second Saturday of July on the QEII Playing. Paxfest 2018 is on 14th July.

Councillors

Parish Councillors are elected or co-opted. If you would like to become a Councillor or find out more about what they do - contact the Clerk.

Committees

In addition to the Full Parish Council meeting there are also smaller committees and advisory groups.

Human Resources Committee

The HR Committee has responsibility to manage issues relating to employees. The Committee meets on an ad hoc basis.

Paxfest Committee

The Paxfest Committee organises Paxfest & the Fun Dog Show which takes place on the 2nd Saturday of July on the QEII Playing Field. Planning for the event starts in September.

Other Committees and Advisory Groups

Where needed, other Committees and Advisory groups are set up and can make recommendations to the Parish Council on particular issues.

Advisory Groups are sometimes referred to as working parties.

Parish Council Elections

The 2018 election was uncontested. This means that as there were less than 15 candidates, Councillors were elected without the need for a poll.

The next election is scheduled for 2022.

Vacancies on the Council can now be filled by co-option.

Little Paxton Parish Council Standing Orders

Standing Orders adopted 4th May 2017, amended 15th March 2018.

Standing Orders are based on the National Association of Local Council's (NALC) model standing orders and are reviewed and adopted annually at the annual Council Meeting in May.

They are the procedures for Council business including meeting protocol.
